Richard “Dick” Gratz, age 73, of Monroe passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021. He was born on March 29, 1948 in Hazel Green to Glenn and Margaret (Boyle) Gratz. He graduated from Darlington High School in 1966. From 1966 until 1968 Richard served in the US Army. Richard married Christine Thomm on March 6, 1976 at St. John’s U.C.C. of Monroe. He was a member of St. John’s U.C.C. and the Monroe Country Club.
Richard, along with his partner John Gruber founded Double G Concrete in 1982. He continued in that business until his retirement and the sale of the company in 2013. He was an avid golfer and loved sports of all kinds, especially the Cheesemakers, the Badgers and the Packers. His five granddaughters were the light of his life, he loved giving them rides in his convertible and taking them for ice cream.
Richard is survived by his wife Chris Gratz; children Tony (Tonya) Gratz of Monroe, Mike (Rosangel) Gratz of California, and Ben (Marcie) Gratz of Baraboo; brothers Kenneth (Pat) Gratz and David (Marcia) Gratz; sisters Jeannie (Ron) Ubersox, Susan (Tim) Schroeder, and Kris (Dave) Welsh; five grandchildren Telina, Teresa, Taralyn, Evelyn, and Celia.
He was preceded in death by his parents and mother and father-in-law.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 from 4:00PM until 7:00PM at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at St. John’s U.C.C. in Monroe on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at 11:00AM with Pastor Christie Mandas officiating. A luncheon will follow at The Ludlow Mansion Events.
