Mary Ellen Scott, age 83, South Wayne, passed away, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at The Monroe Clinic Hospice Home. She was born on September 13, 1935 the daughter of Charles and Lillian (Hildreth) Friedli in Dodgeville. Mary was a graduate of Gratiot High School. She was united in marriage to Vernon Scott on July 16, 1955 at the Methodist Church of Mt. Horeb.
Mary worked alongside her husband on their farm for many years. She was also an in-home caregiver. She enjoyed working in her beautiful flower gardens. Mary also enjoyed baking and cooking; she was known for her chocolate cakes and cheeseburgers, no one could make them as well as her. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life.
Mary was a quiet person but she could light up a room with her beautiful smile and the twinkle in her eye. She had a bright spirit and a heart of gold that was infectious to those around her. Mary was a kind, generous woman with a strong faith and has left a lasting impression on all those who knew her and loved her.
Mary is survived by her children, Nancy (Kenneth) Johnson of Wiota, Mark Scott of Platteville, Pamela (Joseph) Tuescher Scott of South Wayne, and Rhonda (Eric) Strothman of Wiota; seven grandchildren, Heather (Jonathan) Stoeger, Ryan (Brooke) Peterson, Kendra (Justin) Johnson, Lacey (James) Leu, Justin (Morgan Erickson) Engelkens, Janelle (Alan Corley) Johnson, and Brogan Engelkens; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers, Charles (Eleanor) Friedli, Jr. of Stoughton, and Pastor John (Ruth) Friedli of Rochester, MN; sister, Sonia Hustad of Juneau, WI; twin siblings, James (Sandi) Friedli of Monroe and Kathleen (Dean) Lehman of Spooner; sisters-in-law, Glenda (Paul) Finley of Wiota and Anita Schmidt of Adams-Friendship. She is further survived by her dear friend, Bonnie Riffle; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Vernon.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 PM Noon on Monday, October 22, 2018 at Apple Grove Lutheran Church in Argyle with Pastor Dan Bohlman officiating. Burial will immediately follow service at Apple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service at church. Shriner Hager Gohlke Funeral Home is assisting the family.
