Mary Ann (Sarbacker) Koch

Mary Ann (Sarbacker) Koch, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Hometown Assisted Living in Belleville, WI, with family and friends by her side.  She was born on September 10, 1942 in Madison, WI, the oldest of eleven children, the daughter of Leo and Eva (Miller) Sarbacker Sr..  She married Ignatius “Cookie” Koch on June 10, 1965.  He passed away on December 26, 2008.  Together, they had two sons, Mark and Michael.

Mary was a resident of Albany growing up and had worked several jobs around the area in her younger years.  However, her true joy in life was caring for children.  She provided in-home childcare for numerous children and enjoyed watching them grow over the years.  In Mary’s free time, you would often find her at garage sales searching for bargains.  She also enjoyed planting flowers, painting ceramics, and spending time with her family.  Every Sunday, she would insist on cooking lunch for her children and grandchildren, never forgetting dessert!

She is survived by her two sons, Mark (Lisa) Koch of Footville, WI and Michael (Sharon) Koch of Monticello, WI; five grandchildren, Jasmine (Ethan) Andre, Garrett Koch, Holly Koch, Emily Koch, and Austin Koch; two great-grandchildren, Leo and Miles Andre; siblings, Leo (Patricia) Sarbacker Jr. of Florence, WI, Albert Sarbacker of Evansville, WI, Charles Sarbacker of Argyle, WI, Richard Sarbacker of Janesville, WI, Julia (Bob) Uphoff of Madison, WI, and Bonnie (Ronald) Grisby of Brodhead, WI; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ignatius; son, Glen Hollis Jr.; two brothers, Bernard, and Jerry Sarbacker; and two sisters, Shirley DuDones and Alice Finley.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 11:00 AM at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home in Monroe, WI.  A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service.  Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Albany, WI.  Reception to follow at the Albany American Legion Post 144.
