Marjorie “Marjie” Lorraine Mau

Marjorie “Marjie” Lorraine Mau, age 86, of South Wayne, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2019 at Azura Memory Care in Monroe. She was born the daughter of Elmer “Victor” and Dorothy Mae (Johnson) Melland on January 14, 1933 in Wiota Township at the home of her grandparents, Henry and Gilda (Erickson) Melland. Marjie attended Cherry Branch School. She was baptized and confirmed at East Wiota Church.

She was united in marriage to Lester LaVerne Mau on November 15, 1950 at East Wiota Church. They farmed together until 1987 when they moved to South Wayne.  Marjie loved making quilts for her family; having made one for all six of her great-grandchildren, as well as playing cards, taking trips together with family, deer hunting, and fishing. She especially enjoyed working on her family genealogy and creating all the family tree books. In her retirement years, Marjie was an avid gardener and took a lot of pride in her perennial flowers. She had flower beds that people went out of their way to drive by and admire when they were in full bloom. She had been a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in South Wayne.

Marjie will always be remembered for the loving care she had for her family. She opened her home to “Grandma Pearl” Mau and her own mother “Grandma Melland” and cared for them on a daily basis. She was a selfless, kind hearted woman, and she will be dearly missed.

Marjie is survived by her husband, Lester of South Wayne; sons, Delvin (Mary) Mau of South Wayne and Duane (Pat) Mau of Reedsburg; three grandchildren, Sarah (Jesse) Voegeli, Stacy (Jim) Foecking, and Stephanie (Terry) Plath; six great-grandchildren, Taylor, Garrett and Owen Voegeli, Gunner and Halle Jo Foecking, and Carson Plath; brothers, Calvin and (Myrtle) Melland and Alvin Melland both of South Wayne; sisters, Winogene Everson of Monroe, Ramona DeNure of Argyle, and Juanita (Jeff) Kant of South Wayne; brother-in-law, Roy Holverson; sister-in-law, Ethel Eckerman; as well as special nieces, Lori and LeeAnn Melland; nephew, Allen Melland; and her special companion, her cat, Garfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law, Pearl and Chester Mau; brother, Walter Melland; sister, Muriel Holverson; brothers-in-law, Donald Eckerman, Robert Everson, and Kenneth DeNure; sisters-in-law, Marian (Jewel) Gallagher and Lois Melland; nephews, Tommy Melland and Kevin Holverson.

Funeral Services will be held at 12PM NOON on Monday, April 1, 2019 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in South Wayne with Pastor Dennis Perger officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery.
