Marjorie A. Cherry, age 79, of Shullsburg, WI passed away Friday, March 1, 2024, at SSM – Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, WI. She was born September 15, 1944, in New Diggings Township in Lafayette County, WI the daughter of Walter and Mary (McNeal) Shirley. Marjorie lived in New Diggings until her marriage to James H.R. Farrey on June 10, 1961.  From this union two children were born: George Walter (Russel) Farrey and Katherine Thearsa Farrey. After the passing of Jim, she later married Thomas P. Cherry on February 23, 1971.  They lived and farmed in Seymour Township in Lafayette County and later near Cuba City, Wi. In 1978, they moved to Monroe WI, and began working at Advance Transformer in Monroe until 1987. In 1988 they opened Cherry’s Golden Opportunity Elderly Care Home. In 1999 they moved to Shullsburg where they had resided ever since.

Marjorie is survived by her children: George “Russ” (Judy) Farrey of Viola, WI, and Katherine (Lester, Jr.) King of Shullsburg; a sister: Marie Gallagher of Shullsburg; a brother: Walter (Gene) Shirley of Shullsburg; five grandchildren; two step grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; five step great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands: James Farrey and Thomas Cherry; three sisters; one brother and a granddaughter in Infancy. 

Marjorie was a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Shullsburg, a lifetime member of the Benton VFW Auxiliary, Women’s Auxiliary. When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed dancing, watching movies, fishing, gardening, and crafts. Most of all she cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren creating memories they will all hold dearly forever.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church (344 N. Judgement St., Shullsburg) with Fr. Peter Lee officiating. Burial will be in St. Matthew’s Cemetery in Shullsburg. A visitation will be held Tuesday, March 12, 2024, from 11:30 A.M. until 12:30 P.M. at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. A Rosary will be prayed at 12:30 P.M. at the Church prior to the Mass on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. The Erickson Funeral Home in Shullsburg is serving the family.
