Karen L. Disch, age 85, of Monticello, died Monday, December 18, 2023 at Albany Oaks Assisted Living in Albany. Karen was born in Madison, WI, the daughter of Clyde and Adeline (Wichser) Johnson. She was employed at Oaktron Industries in Monroe prior to her marriage to Gilbert Disch Jr. on April 4, 1959 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. For the majority of her life, she operated “Karen’s Kiddie Kare” in Monticello where she was devoted to caring for many area children. She enjoyed garage saling with her sisters, shopping, gardening, cooking meals for family and farm help, collecting angels, running her daycare, and most of all spoiling her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello.
She will be missed by her children, Cherri (Mike) Kempfer, Mike Disch, Tammy (Bob) Kammes, Jeff (Sharon) Disch, Brenda (Paul) Eichelkraut, Renee (Brett) Eichelkraut, Dave (Jennifer) Disch, Angie (John) Blum, Ryan Disch; daughter-in-law, Donna Disch; 30 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; sisters, Marcia Crouch and Diane (Lee) Studer; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gibby Disch on March 15, 2006; two sons, Daniel and Travis “T.J.”; great granddaughter, Bella; brother, Dean; and sister-in-law, LaVonne (Roger) Schneeberger.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 22, 2023, at 12:00 p.m., at Zwingli United Church of Christ, Monticello, with Rev. Ted Drewsen officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery, Monticello. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Karen’s name.
