Helen F. Gmur, 99, of New Glarus, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at the New Glarus Home.  The daughter of John and Anna (Disch) Haegele, Helen was born in Exeter Township on January 4, 1924.  She attended Verona High School, graduating in 1941.  Helen married Herbert Gmur on July 3, 1944 at the Swiss Church Parsonage in New Glarus.  Working for the Wisconsin Department of Administration, she retired in 1987 as a Procurement Specialist. 

Over the years, Helen enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and watching Badger basketball games.  After retirement she and Herb took several bus trips around the United States and looked forward to the annual reunion of Army buddies and wives.  They also enjoyed going dancing and were members of the Roger Bright Polka Club for many years.  Helen was a member of Swiss United Church of Christ, and enjoyed the Wednesday morning services at Glarner Lodge while she lived there.

Helen is survived by her children, Gary (Mary) Gmur; Steve (Karen) Gmur; Jane (Gary) Kuhl; and Debbie (Milo) Parker.  She was proud Grandma to Bryan Kuhl, Holly (Dan Faulkner) Kuhl, Wade (Becky) Kuhl, Peter (Donna) Gmur, Anne (Tim Siegel) Gmur, Jean (Brian) Busch, Erin (Brian) Bartosch and Greg (Stacy) Gmur.  She also leaves behind many awesome great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert, in 2002; her parents, and brother, Norman Haegele.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at the Swiss United Church of Christ, 18 Fifth Ave., New Glarus, WI with Pat Pluss officiating.  Inurnment will be in the Swiss Church Cemetery, New Glarus, WI.

A gathering will precede the memorial service from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus.

The Zentner-Beal Funeral Home of New Glarus is assisting the family.

To all who had a part in Helen’s care over the past several years, we thank you for your patience, kindness and good care.  Thank you to the staff and volunteers of the New Glarus Home, Monroe Clinic Hospice, Glarner Lodge, Hometown Helpers, and Pleasant View Nursing Home.
