Gordon Glenn Gempeler, age 77, of Monroe passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. He was born the son of Glenn and Rose (Elmer) Gempeler on June 11, 1943 in Monroe. Gordon was united in marriage to Marsha L. Mayer on June 26, 1976 at Grace Lutheran Church; she preceded him in death in 2017.
Gordon proudly served in the US Army. He worked for Joseph Huber Brewing Company, now Minhas Brewery in the bottle house for 42 years. Gordon and his wife, Marsha opened their home to foster care for many years. He was fascinated by trains and enjoyed taking his son, Jeff to train shows; he also had his own model train setup at home. Gordon also enjoyed hot air balloon shows; he and Jeff enjoyed “chasing” the balloons to see where they would land.
Gordon is survived by his son, Jeffrey (Laura) Gempeler; siblings, Gary (Stephanie) Gempeler, Glenda (Larry) Pahnke, Gerry Gempeler, Gloria (Joe) Kopp, and Grace (Mike) Kruckenberg. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Marsha.
Funeral Services will be held at 11AM on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home with Pastor Andrew Ewings and Pastor Nathan Strutz co-officiating.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 12, 2021 from 4-7PM at the funeral home.
Burial will take place in Sunset Acres Memorial Gardens in Orangeville, at a later date, with military honors.
