It’s with great sadness that we say “Goodbye” to our Dad, Grandpa, and Poppy.
Glen H. Meier, age 97, of Monroe, formerly of South Wayne, passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. He was born on October 10, 1920 to German immigrants Gustave and Bertha (Krupke) Meier. Glen was united in marriage to Eva Rae Hale at the Peace Church Parsonage in Browntown on March 20, 1945; they celebrated 68 years of marriage before her death on June 23, 2013.Together they have four children.
Glen was a member of the Pecatonica Bit and Spur Saddle Club, the Civil Defense, Lafayette County Mounted Patrol, as well as the South Wayne EMS and Fire Department for 34 years. He enjoyed farming and had always had a passion for Allis Chalmers machinery, Chevrolet vehicles, horses, and deer. He thoroughly enjoyed family get-togethers, playing cards and reminiscing about farming with horses. He enjoyed telling stories about the good-old-days. He was a person who was there to help before being asked. In addition to farming he had been employed by the South Wayne/Black Hawk School District as a bus driver for 34 years. Many parents said they could set their clocks by his arrival. He was employed by Monroe Clinic as a courier for 17 years, his motto was to be there and be on time. He retired in 2004 at the age of 84.
He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Wayne Township, and was currently a member of Peace Church in Christ, Browntown; having served as Co-Financial Secretary for many years.
Glen is survived by his children, Donald (Linda VanStone) Meier of Rockton, IL, Duane (Cammy) Meier of South Wayne, Glenda “Christy” (Gene) Komprood of Gratiot, and Ginger (Ed) Hagen of South Wayne; seven grandchildren, Jami (Greg) Brown, Jennifer (Bob) Schulz, Nikole (Jason) Smith, Jeremy Komprood, Amanda Meyer, Kaci (Jeremy) Nall and Kaitlyn (T.J.) Wirtz; twelve great-grandchildren, Brittany (Jeremy) Lentz, Austin and Chloe Abraham, Gavin and Reese Smith, Kaedyn Komprood, Conner and Cade Meyer, Alli and Blake Nall, and Myla and Maci Wirtz; and great-great grandson, Keygan Lentz.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; wife; six brothers and their wives, Freddie (Alta), William (Alma), Johnnie (Esther), Walter (Mildred), Clarence (Ruth), and Melvin (Elsie) Meier; and grandson-in-law, Scott Dodge.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018 at the Peace Church in Christ in Browntown with Pastor Scott Cernek and Pastor Dennis Perger co-officiating. Burial will follow service in LaDue Cemetery, Wayne Township. Visitation will be held on Monday, Sept. 24, 2018 at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home from 4:00-7:00PM and on Tuesday from 10:00AM until the time of service at the church.
