George W. Stamm

 George W. Stamm, age 80 of Monroe, died on Monday, August 6, 2018 at Monroe Health Services. He was born on October 12, 1937 in Monroe, the son of Frank and Genevieve (Barrett) Stamm. He attended Ullom School and Monroe High School. George and Shirley Friske were united in marriage on October 6, 1962.

George proudly served in the National Guards- Active Duty at Fort Lewis, Washington and was called to serve the U.S. Army during the Berlin Crisis from October 15, 1961 – August 10, 1962.  He was a carpenter and contractor his entire working career; he first worked for Moonlight Construction and later Stamm Construction. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Monroe; children: Dawn and Traci Stamm both of Monroe; Angie (Bob) Flannery of Waunakee, Wendi (Derek) Obday of Reedsburg; two granddaughters, Caitie and Alivia Flannery; five step-granddaughters, Anne, Naomi, Rebekah, Elizabeth, and Moriah Obday; two step-grandsons, Joe and Gideon Obday; brother, Terry (Carol) Stamm of Murfreesboro, TN; sisters, Sue (Richard) Brick of Caledonia, IL; Kay Bunn of Paris, TN; brother-in-law, Don (Carol) Friske of Monroe; sisters-in-law, Charlene (Roger) Gable of Baraboo, WI and Rena Young of Monroe; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Gilbert and Ruth Friske; brothers, Wayne and Robert Stamm; brothers-in-law, Ronald Friske, Bill Bunn and Dick Young; and nephews, Mike Swann, Chris Gable, Bradley Brick and Peter Young.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10, 2018 at Grace Lutheran Church where Pastor John Tabaka officiated. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation was held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home; and on Friday, at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
