Donovan L. Prien, age 88 of Monroe, died Saturday, July 21, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 22, 1929 on the family farm in Sylvester Township; the son of Loyd and Ethel (Haessig) Prien. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1949. Donovan married Lavon “Dolly” Meyers on June 5, 1954 in Monroe. He farmed his entire life on the family farm. He was a member of Monroe United Methodist Church and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #754. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, playing softball and watching all sports. Donovan designed his own building projects and took pride in that, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Lavon “Dolly” of Monroe; 5 children: Deborah (Donald) Haagenson of Park Rapids, MN, Cheryl (Dan Ciano) Ray of Poynette, WI, Denise (David) Dye of Monroe, Sharon (Dave) De Vries of Dousman, WI, and Douglas (Betty Parkinson) Prien of Monroe; 12 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; a sister, Marleah Barrett-Booble of Monroe; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, John Ray, father and mother-in-law.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Monroe United Methodist Church with Pastor Randy Booth officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery. A visitation will be held Friday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home.
