Donald S. Bates Sr., age 83, passed away on Friday December 24, 2021 at SSM Health Monroe Hospital. He was born on September 27, 1938 in Pennsylvania to Harry and Dolly (Oberlander) Bates. He married Joyce Vogt in 1959 in Tinicum, PA. He worked for US Gauge for many years in Pennsylvania until moving to Wisconsin in 1976 to farm. He loved going to auctions and his life’s passion was collecting antiques.

He is survived by his wife Joyce of Orangeville, IL, 4 children; Don (Ly Hang) Bates Jr. of Sterling, IL, Dennis Bates of Racine, WI., Deb (Steve) Dundee of Juda, Wi., and Darryl Bates III of Las Vegas, NV. Grandchildren; Don Bates III, Jessica Bates, Thanh Pham, Dennis Bates Jr, Daniel Bates, Crystal Bates, John Harris, Tanya Rutledge, Amanda Weisensel, Ella Dundee, Cody Bates, Makayla Bates, Katie Chapman, Dustin Chapman, Kenzie Chapman. Great grandchildren; Jordan Bates, Denver Gobrecht, Chance Rueter, Rosie Rutledge, Nola Rutledge, Braylen Johnson, Brody Weisensel, Scottlyn Bates, Nova Chapman and Ivy Chapman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son David Bates, daughter Dawn Chapman, grandchildren; Keanah Bates, Robert Bates, twin sister Lillian and brothers Walter and Harry.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 till 8:00PM on Thursday January 6, 2022, at the Cramer-Leamon Funeral Home in Orangeville, IL.

Private family services will be held with Chaplain Shirley Kelter.
