Charlene Beutel, age 96, died on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at her daughter’s Monroe home. She was born in Mt Pleasant Township on July 14, 1922, the youngest child of Lee and Charlotte (Sutherland) Sanderlin. She attended Lincoln and Searles Schools and graduated from Albany High School in 1939.
Charlene and Paul W. Beutel were married in Juda on December 18, 1943. They moved to Clarno Township in 1948, where they began farming and raised their family. They purchased a second neighboring farm when son Richard graduated in 1963 and farmed together for many years.
Jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, crocheting and reading were all activities Charlene enjoyed in her spare time as a farm wife and mother and later in her retirement. Paul and Charlene had especially enjoyed dancing to the music of the Greg Anderson Band, as well as playing cards with siblings. Most important to her was her family, and she was a favorite aunt and grandmother for many family members.
Charlene is survived by daughter Linda (George) Engles, Monroe; daughter-in-law Linda Beutel, Browntown; eight grandchildren: Wendy (David) Tschudy, Stephen Nelson, Julie (Michael) Beutel-Givas, Jeffrey Beutel, Kevin (Rebecca) Nelson, Joel (Amy) Beutel, Brian Beutel, Marci (Michael Robinson) Beutel; four great-grandchildren: Raina Beutel, Daria Beutel, Marissa Beutel and Zander Nelson; and one great-great granddaughter, Addisyn. Charlene is also survived by sister-in-law Dorothy Beutel, Belleville and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband on February 15, 2001, son Richard on November 2, 2001, great-grandson Dustan Beutel on June 29, 2018, brother L.G. in 1994, her father in 1987 and her mother in 1973.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Thursday, September 20, 2018 at SHRINER-HAGER-GOHLKE funeral home. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Juda.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 20th, from 10:00 am until time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established.
