By Al Gerber Engineering Supervisor, City of Monroe During the week of May 31, Dane County Contracting continued with the installation of 8-inch water main from the mid-1900 block of 9th Street to 20th Avenue including the intersection of 20th Avenue. They also installed new 8-inch water main along 16th Avenue North of 9th Street. They installed 440 feet of water main.

Rock Road Companies continued with the installation of 24-inch and 18-inch concrete storm sewer main line pipe along 9th Street from 13th Avenue to 14th Avenue. They installed about 300 feet of storm sewer. Once the bridge abutments were removed Rock Road finished the installation of 118 feet of 24-inch x 38-inch elliptical concrete storm sewer pipe. Concrete pavement has been removed from 12th Avenue to 14th Avenue. The bridge contractor, Edward Kraemer & Sons, has completed the installation of nine of the 12 piles for the new bridge foundation. Voegeli Landscaping and McGuire Inc. have completed the excavation for the retaining wall installation from 8th Avenue to 10th Avenue. Voegeli Landscaping also started constructing the concrete leveling pads for the installation of the retaining walls from the bridge to 10th Avenue.

Next week, Dane County Contracting will continue with sanitary sewer installation along 9th Street from 16th Avenue to 20th Avenue. They will install sanitary sewer services up to the property line (back of sidewalk) and re-connect water services up to the terrace as they work down the street towards 20th Avenue. Once the new water services are connected, the final connection of the new water main will be completed at the avenue intersections abandoning the old water main in 9th Street.

Next week, Rock Road Companies will continue with storm sewer lateral installation from 12th Avenue working towards 17th Avenue. They will continue with concrete pavement removal from 14th Avenue to 17th Avenue and should be complete up to 17th Avenue by the end of the week. After the concrete is removed, the grading crew will go back and continue with the placement of the street base from 12th Avenue to 17th Avenue to join up with the storm sewer crew. The bridge contractor, Edward Kraemer & Sons, will complete pile installation for the foundation of the new bridge and install temporary shoring next to buildings that are located close the right of way at 10th Avenue. Voegeli Landscaping will continue working on retaining wall installation at the new bridge location.

All intersections will remain open for cross traffic the majority of the time, except when they have to install utilities through the intersection. The intersections will be completely barricaded when this is. Otherwise the barricades will be offset to allow for cross traffic.
