MONROE — Two teenagers were arrested in Monroe on felony theft charges less than 30 minutes after deputies responded to a theft in progress in New Glarus early April 7, according to the Green County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded at about 3:10 a.m. to a report of a theft in progress from an unoccupied vehicle parked in a driveway in the 200 block of 3rd Avenue in New Glarus.

The suspects took a semi-automatic rifle, several gun parts and a large quantity of ammunition out of the vehicle, then left in a pickup truck. They were gone by the time deputies arrived.

At 3:36 a.m. in the 1200 block of 9th Street in Monroe, police spotted a pickup truck matching the description of the suspect vehicle.

“Upon officers making contact with the pickup truck, multiple subjects exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. Officers were able to detain two of the subjects,” Green County Sgt. Allen Peters reported.

Luke F. Johnson, 17, Albany, and Jayden J. G. Rodriguez, 18, Monroe, were jailed pending court.

The case remains under investigation.
