MONROE - The Monroe Arts Center will present Snuffy Smith and his band at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11.
Smith performs country, gospel and soul music. His music is described as combining the classic country music sound of artists like Hank Williams and George Jones with the influences of "Outlaw" country, southern rock, and blues by singers such as Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings.
Smith began his career at an early age by singing in church. With his Virginia roots and ties to the Carter Family setting the stage, his love of music grew as a young boy when he first heard Hank Williams, Sr. and George Jones.
Snuffy's first album, "Arms Around the World," received praise for its two hits, the title track and the upbeat "Hard Road," both of which saw success on the CCMA Christian Country Chart. His follow-up release "Believe" also found success. The title cut, "If You Could Only Believe," debuted at No. 39 on the CCMA Chart in January 2000. By April of that year, Snuffy was holding a No. 1 chart position and was named finalist for the CCMA Christian Country Male Vocalist of the Year award.
The song "Keepin' Faith," which Smith released last year, peaked at No. 25 on both the Inspirational Country Radio charts and the HMG Nashville Country Radio chart. A second release, "Private Daniel's Prayers" off his self-titled album, reached No. 87 on the Music Row Charts. Smith has also been the winner of the Madison Area Music Awards for Best Country Artist, and was a guest performer at the MAC's 2011 MAC Radio Live.
Smith's newest music project, slated to be released sometime during the summer or fall, will be a collection of only songs he has written or co-written.
Reserved seat tickets for Snuffy Smith are $25, $20 for adults, and $10 for students 18 years of age and under. Tickets may be purchased by calling MAC at (608) 325-5700 or (888) 596-1249, in person at the box office, 1315 11th St., or online at www.monroeartscenter.com.
