MONROE - People who drive Wisconsin 11/81 from Brodhead to where the four lanes begin just west of Juda will have to contend with road work next week.
Green County Highway Department workers will sealcoat the highway beginning Monday. Jeff Wunschel, general superintendent at the highway department, said workers will apply hot asphalt and then cover it with limestone chips.
The road will be limited to one-lane traffic throughout the process and drivers should expect to make frequent stops along the road as work crews put down the sealcoating. Wunschel said motorists can expect to stop for up to 10 minutes as crews re-route traffic.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, crews will sweep the stone chips off the road and drivers will have to drive slowly.
Green County Sheriff Randy Roderick said drivers should remember that speeding tickets double in work zones. Motorists could be fined up to $600, including court costs, if they speed through a work zone.
Wunschel said motorists need to be careful when they drive through work zones.
"We'll have about 20 pieces of equipment out there and a lot of workers," he said. "People need to slow down."
Wunschel suggested people find an alternative route between Brodhead and Monroe for the first few days of the week. One possible alternative is Greenbush Road, located off Wis. 59.
