MONROE - People looking for alternate transportation options in their area now can find that information in one spot.
Haley Roessler and mobility manager Phil Anderson handle the requests through LIFT, Leadership in Innovative Flexible Transportation, a Dodgeville-based program to assist those who rely on community transportation for their lives and livelihoods. They coordinate and promote available transportation services throughout Green, Lafayette, Grant, Iowa and Richland counties.
The program can connect the elderly, disabled, low-income and commuting populations with transportation options throughout southwestern Wisconsin.
Roessler said the "one-stop" program covers every kind of medical or social transportation. LIFT can even help people find car pools for workers.
"I'll be looking for the sort of transportation a person needs, whether it is for repeated dialysis treatments or a one-time social trip, or something more consistent," she said.
LIFT also will take into consideration costs for the person requesting information.
Some sources of transportation are free, but Roessler said she also can seek available medical assist transportation. For ride sharing, Roessler said the commuters will determine how they want to share costs.
"We can't guarantee we'll find exactly what someone is looking for, but we'll do our best to find any resources available," Roessler said.
The program is excellent for people with limited mobility related to age or disabilities, or who struggle with self-sufficiency - anyone who cannot, or chooses not to, drive.
LIFT services can help them to fully participate in their communities.
Southwestern Wisconsin Transit Team (SWIFT) started in 2006 to form LIFT out of a federal initiative to promote transportation services.
LIFT opens for business Monday, and is accessible through a toll free number, 1-877-798-5438. LIFT also is online at www.SWT-LIFT. org. Transportation services that would like to be added to the LIFT program can use the same contact information.
