DARLINGTON — A Platteville man faces a felony charge of arson after reportedly lighting his former trailer home on fire in November during a domestic dispute with a woman.

Josue Daniel Castro Lopez, 20, is also charged with disorderly conduct in Lafayette County Circuit Court for the incident. His signature bond was set at $20,000 at an initial appearance Dec. 17.

According to the criminal complaint, he lit the fire in the living room of the trailer at the Dawn Vista Terrace Mobile Home Park in Belmont on Nov. 17, then barricaded himself in another room, yelling to the woman to let him die.

She frantically called 911, and a medical helicopter was dispatched in anticipation that he would be seriously injured.

But it was later discovered he had apparently escaped out a window and sustained only minor injuries. He was located on the ground of a softball field southwest of the fire scene “mumbling about how the fire was his fault.”

The trailer was destroyed. No other injuries were reported.
