The following candidates will be on the ballot Tuesday, April 2 for city council races in Green and Lafayette counties. All candidates in these races were asked to reply to a questionnaire. The answers from those who responded are printed below, in their own words. Candidates were also given the option to submit a photo to appear with their profile information.

MONROE - A candidate spot remains open on the Monroe Common Council for the Tuesday, April 2 election: Ward 4 still has no one declaring a candidacy for the seat.

2013 is the year for election of even-numbered seats on the Monroe Common Council.

Two aldermen, Brooke Bauman, Ward 2, and Reid Stangel, Ward 8, are running uncontested for re-election. Both were elected in 2011.

Chris Beer, an alderman for Ward 9 at one time, is running again for a seat, this time in Ward 6 because of boundary changes made after the 2010 census. She is also the only candidate in her ward.

General issues regarding economic growth and the budget top the list of major concerns for all three candidates, according to profile information they submitted.

City Clerk Carol Stamm said candidates interested in running in Ward 4 can still declare their intent to run for the seat by registering their campaigns in the city clerk office.

Voters in two other area cities also have uncontested races on their ballots.

Brodhead

Teresa Withee is the only candidate for alderman in Ward 1 in Brodhead. John E. Bernstein is running unopposed in Ward 2, while Hubert W. Vickers is unopposed for Ward 3.

Shullsburg

Carl E. Ballad is the only name on the ballot for District 1 in Shullsburg. Darrell Morrissey is uncontested in District 2.
