MONROE - A Belleville man accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl had a pretrial set for May 19, allowing more time for further investigation into the alleged crimes.

Matthew G. Tweed, 35, is charged with four Class C felony counts of second-degree sexual assault of a child and three Class D felony counts of child enticement to sexual acts.

Tweed appeared in Green County Circuit Court Tuesday for a pretrial conference and another pretrial was set for May 19. Tweed remains free on bond with conditions he have no contact with any person under the age of 18, the victim or her residence.

He is allowed to have contact with his children only if his wife or the maternal grandparents are supervising.

Court records indicate Tweed met the then-14-year-old victim as she was running on the Badger State Trail in August. The victim told police she allowed Tweed to run beside her and he stopped to kiss and touch her. She said there were four separate occasions of sexual contact initiated by Tweed, each time on the trail, with the most recent assault in September.

Tweed maintains that all contact was consensual.
