MONROE - The Mount Horeb appellate attorney assigned to represent Armin Wand III filed Monday, Nov. 18, for an extension to file an appeal or post-conviction motion in the case.
Pat FitzGerald said she didn't receive until earlier this month the full court record of the homicide case against Wand. She's requesting an extension until early January to take action on the case.
A clerk at the Court of Appeals office in Madison said Tuesday, Nov. 19 the request had been forwarded to the court.
Wand, 34, was sentenced in April to life in prison for setting his Argyle rental home on fire in September 2012 with the intention of killing his family and cashing in their life insurance policies. His three young sons died in the fire, while his pregnant wife and daughter escaped alive. His wife, Sharon Wand, was severely burned and lost the baby she was carrying.
Wand's sentence, handed down by Green County Judge Thomas Vale, comes with no chance for parole.
Vale also sentenced Wand's younger brother, 19-year-old Jeremy Wand, to life in prison for helping set the fire.
The younger Wand will be eligible for parole in 2048.
