Monroe yard waste drop off Saturday

MONROE - The first Yard Waste Drop Off Day will be held from 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday, at the City of Monroe Street Department, 1064 5th Avenue, Monroe. This is free of charge and is Monroe residents only.

Curbside collection rules apply. Yard waste must be in clear bags and weigh no more than 60 pounds. Branches must be bundled in four-foot lengths and weigh no more than 60 pounds. Loose material will not be accepted.

Freon based appliances will be picked up until May 15 at the reduced cost of $15 per item. Items include refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers, and air conditioners. Doors must be removed from refrigerators and freezers prior to disposal. A sticker and condition report are required for each individual item and can be picked up at City Hall or at the Street Dept.

The following items are now being accepted at the street department for a fee of $0.35 per pound: Computer systems, laptops, printers, scanners, copiers, fax machines, televisions, VCR's, DVD players, projectors, stereo components, microwave ovens, cell phones, and smoke detectors.

Batteries may be dropped off at the Street Department Administration Office or the Treasurer's Office at City Hall. Common batteries and cordless tool batteries will cost $2.50 per pound. Lithium batteries will cost $10 per pound. Vehicular batteries will not be accepted.
