MONROE — Police have identified the man killed last Saturday night in a single-car crash.

The victim of the May 20 fatal crash was Colin Rabe Jr., 52, of rural Monroe, according to Green County Sheriff Jeff Skatrud, who released the name late Monday. He was declared dead earlier by the Green County Coroner.

The crash happened just before 11 p.m. at the intersection of Wis. 11/81 and County GG.

“Initial investigation revealed that a vehicle was traveling westbound on State Highway 81,” police said in their statement “The vehicle failed to stop at the stop sign and continued across State Highway 11 and onto County Highway GG.”

That’s when, police said, the car hit the west ditch of County Highway GG and continued northbound before colliding with a mound of gravel and overturning.

“The vehicle then collided with a cement pillar before coming to rest,” said the statement.

Rabe was wearing his seatbelt, and the airbags in his car did not deploy.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by Brodhead Police Department, Brodhead Fire Department, and Brodhead EMS.

The accident remains under investigation. Police are awaiting toxicology test results to determine if the victim was impaired at the time of the crash.
