MONROE - At a meeting Tuesday, Nov. 5, the Monroe Common Council:
Approved 8-1 the Consent Agenda, consisting of $473,300 to pay bills, granting miscellaneous licenses, and granting a temporary class B beer license to St. Clare of Assisi for a fish fry dinners in November, March and April. Tyler Schultz voted against.
Authorized unanimously to hire Angie Parr as the replacement WWTP administrative secretary on or before Nov. 25, at a probationary union contract rate of $16.13.
Authorized unanimously to hire Jacob M. Teasdale as a replacement police officer on or about Nov. 20, at an hourly rate of $22.78.
Approved 8-1 amounts for city contributions to health insurance program for full- and part-time employees and reimbursements for retirees. Michael Boyce voted against.
Approved Anytime Fitness Tug of War fundraiser Nov. 9 in Twining Park.
Accepted bids and voted unanimously to award the 2013/201 utility improvement project contract to S&L Underground and Trucking, Inc., Merrimac, for $592,700.
Mayor Bill Ross reported on the Cheese Days 2014 kick-off event.
GCDC Executive Director Michael Johnson introduced himself to the council and reported on his work so far in the county and his future plans for the organization. Main Street Monroe Executive Director Amy Brandt recapped the organization's 2013 activities and events and identified future plans.

MONROE - At a meeting Monday, Nov. 4, the City of Monroe Board of Public Works:
Approved bills for payment from AECOM for $59,200 for services on WWTP upgrade; Fischl Construction for $28,700 for work on the Badger State Trailhead facility; Whitney Tree Service for $590 for one tree removal and $4,800 for 46 stump removals; and Advanced Disposal for $2,150 for September recycling.
Voted unanimously to recommend the city hire Maddrell Excavating as extra help for the 2013-2014 removal of snow on the Square, parking lots and cul de sacs, as needed, for $82 per hour for trucks with operators and $125 per hour for end loaders with operators.
Voted unanimously to recommend the city hire Maddrell Excavating as the main contractor, with E&N Hughes as the backup contractor, for the 2013-2014 broken main season. Maddrell quoted $130 per hour for a backhoe with operator, breaker and compactor, $83 per hour for a dump truck and $67 per hour for labor.
Member Reid Stangel was absent.

Received an update on the Rural Fire District contract proposal from Fire Chief Daryl Rausch. Rausch reported that the district preferred a flat, annual fee billing, as opposed to a per-call rate. Rausch also reported that the Town of Sylvester has notified the city that it would be withdrawing from the fire district.
Discussed a request for installing warning signs on streets where the recreational trails cross. Police chief Fred Kelley and City engineer Supervisor Al Gerber were directed to list possible areas where signs would be needed and the costs.
