MONROE - A Master Composter Training Workshop will provide training for anyone wanting to teach others about home composting, including backyard composting and vermicomposting with earthworms.

The training will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 29 at the Green County Justice Center, at 2841 6th St.

"The program is designed specifically to provide basic knowledge, skills and tools for people who want to teach others about composting," said Joe Van Rossum, a recycling specialist at the University of Wisconsin-Extension Solid and Hazardous Waste Education Center at UW-Madison. "This program is not for the general public to learn about home composting."

Green County UW Extension and SHWEC are sponsoring this training program in order to encourage broader adoption of composting by residents.

In addition to the workshop, participants who are seeking certification as a Master Composter must participate in a follow-up discussion in April or May and support community understanding of home composting.

There is a $30 fee for the program, which includes the home study course and other resources. Participants are asked to bring a lunch.

The registration deadline is Monday, March 17. To register, send a $30 check payable to Green County UW-Extension and mail to Master Composting Training, Green County UW-Extension, 2841 6th Street, Monroe, WI 53566.
