DARLINGTON - A Shullsburg man was charged Tuesday with repeatedly sexually assaulting a young girl for several months late last year and early this year.
Jose David Ortiz-Segundo, 27, was charged in Lafayette County Circuit Court with a Class B felony count of first-degree child sexual assault and a related Class C offense.
Ortiz-Segundo's charges stem from a series of incidents reported to have taken place between Oct. 1, 2016 and Feb. 18 of this year.
According to a criminal complaint, Ortiz-Segundo reportedly sucked on a prepubescent girl's neck, causing visible bruises, at a residence on West Oates Street in Shullsburg on Oct. 1.
Also, on multiple occasions since that incident, Ortiz-Segundo reportedly groped the child's genitals beneath her clothes on multiple occasions.
A $5,000 cash bond was set Tuesday with conditions that Ortiz-Segundo have no contact with the victim, her family or her residence. Ortiz-Segundo's attorney, Guy Taylor, requested the bond be made a signature bond, rather than a cash bond, but Judge David Deininger said the issue would be decided at Ortiz-Segundo's preliminary hearing on March 17.
Ortiz-Segundo's charges carry a maximum possible sentence of 65 years in prison.
