MONROE - On Monday, May 2 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the Ludlow Mansion, the Monroe Arts Center (MAC) will sponsor a wonderful dining experience on par with many great restaurants.

This annual May fundraiser fittingly titled "A Taste of Spring - Savor the Arts," will combine exquisite fare, award winning wines and brews, savory Wisconsin cheeses, along with a silent auction, and a live auction offering fine art pieces.

This distinctive event in which the public is invited to attend, will consist of a superb five-course classic French cuisine served dinner showcasing the culinary talents of Sarah Jarrett, chef of the Monroe Country Club. For the evening's entrée, Chef Jarrett has chosen to prepare Cotes de Basse (braised beef).

Sarah Jarrett grew up in the Chicago suburbs. She moved to Monroe sixteen years ago, bought a farmette, and after raising a family of five, started cooking professionally. This was a natural segue, as her entire family is passionate about cooking and have made the culinary arts their careers.

Her daughter, Sally Jarrett, and family friend, Darren Putney, both attended the Madison Area Technical College's culinary program. For three years, Sally served as the Pastry Chef at Madison's Restaurant Magnus and, for eight years, Darren was their Sous Chef. Sarah's brother Russell Brown is the chef and owner of Pancho and Lefty's Outlaw Grill in Monroe.

All the Jarrett family members will be contributing their culinary skills to the Taste of Spring menu.

In addition to this fine dining experience, a diverse array of items for a silent auction will be on display and available for bidding throughout the evening. A live fine art auction, conducted by guest auctioneer Hans Bernet of Monroe, will feature two and three dimensional items including, limited edition original watercolor, acrylic, and oil paintings, and photographic prints, provided by nationally known artists.

Live music by the Frank Calvangna Trio will add to the elegance of this event.

The cost to attend A Taste of Spring is $75 per individual or $400 for a table of eight. For reservations contact the Monroe Arts Center at (608) 325-5700. Reservation deadline is Monday, April 25.
