MONROE - The story of legendary French cabaret singer and performer, Edith Piaf, will come to life on the Monroe Arts Center stage at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 27. Milwaukee actress Leslie Fitzwater will play Piaf in the one-woman show, "Edith Piaf Onstage."
In "Edith Piaf Onstage," Fitzwater recounts fascinating stories and sings Piaf's most notable songs such as "La Vie en Rose," and "Amour." Pianist Paula Foley Tillen and accordion player, Tom Kanack, will provide live music and accompany Fitzwater.
Edith Piaf was a French singer and cultural icon that became universally regarded as France's greatest popular singer. Though much of her life is shrouded in mystery, her singing reflected her life.
Fitzwater has been acting and singing professionally for more than thirty five years and has performed with the Milwaukee Symphony, the Racine Symphony, the Florentine Opera, Skylight Opera Theatre, Present Music, Milwaukee Dance Theatre, and Milwaukee Choral Artists.
However, she is best known for her portrayal of Piaf.
While she has played her share of well-known characters such as Golda (Fiddler on the Roof), Fraulein Schneider (Cabaret), Agnes (I Do, I Do), Irma (Irma la Douce) and Marmie (Little Women), Fitzwater's real passion is being in on the ground floor of new works.
Reserved seat tickets for "Edith Piaf Onstage" are $25 and $20, and may be purchased by calling the Monroe Arts Center at (608) 325-5700 or in person at the box office located at 1315 11th St. Additional information regarding this performance and other MAC events can be found online at www.monroeartscenter.com.
