Locals miss First Farmer cut

If there is a First Farmer in Washington, it won't be one of two local contestants in an online poll.

The finalists for White House farmer were selected in an online poll from 27 contestants. The final three include Claire Strader of Madison, along with Carrie Little of Tacoma, Wash., and Margaret Lloyd of Davis, Calif.

Poll organizer Terra Brockman of Congerville, Ill., plans to forward their names to the White House.

President Obama has not yet created the position of First Farmer.

The list of 27 farm families in the online poll included Tony and Dela Ends, owners of Scotch Hill Farm near Brodhead, and Steve Haak of the Haak Family Farms in Belleville.
