Candidate to host listening session

MONROE - Matt Silverman, a Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress, will hold a listening session at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3 at the Behring Senior Center, 1113 10th St.

Silverman will speak briefly and then answer questions from residents.

The event is open to the public.

Silverman is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the University of Wisconsin Law School, and served as an Army officer in Iraq with the 82nd Airborne Division.

City to collect yard waste Wednesday

MONROE - The streets and sanitation department will collect yard waste, such as leaves, grass clippings and garden plants, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1 at the streets and sanitation department, 1064 5th Ave.

Yard waste that can be bagged should be in a clear or clear blue waterproof bag with a capacity of no more than 33 gallons and weighing 60 pounds or less. Sticks, branches, brush, stalks and other yard waste not easily bagged should be tied in bundles.

Block of 13th Ave. closed Thursday

MONROE - The 900 block of 13th Avenue will be closed beginning at 7:30 A.M. Thursday, Aug. 2, for traffic signal maintenance. The closure is expected to last four to five hours.
