Editor's note: As Green County works to prepare its 2012 budget, The Monroe Times will preview the proposed budgets for a few of the larger departments within the county.

MONROE - The Green County Health Department will see an increase of about 5.26 percent for its 2012 budget.

The projected 2012 budget for the health department is $938,280, an increase of $46,860, compared to the $891,420 budget plan for 2011.

The increased budget includes the department hiring a full-time public health nurse, as well as plans for renovating the UW-Extension wing, said RoAnn Warden, the director health department.

The health department is projecting that the final 2011 expenses will come in at about $860,000, almost $32,000 less than what was budgeted for 2011.

Personnel is the reason for the cost-savings.

"We did not move forward on hiring the public health nurse like we budgeted for because of the uncertainty of the state and federal funding," Warden said.

The budget was passed by the Green County Finance and Accounting Committee Thursday, Sept. 22. The budget will be complied with the other departments and given to the Green County Board of Supervisors at its Tuesday, Oct. 18 meeting. The board will vote on the entire budget in November.
