GRATIOT — An accident on Wis. 11 outside of Juda on April 30 had MedFlight on standby and caused a major disruption for traffic.

According to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 12:29 p.m., Gratiot First and Fire and Green County EMS responded to Wis. 11 in Gratiot Township for reports of a two-vehicle accident.

Travis A. Wilson, 41, Cuba City, was traveling westbound on Wis. 11 in a 1991 Chevrolet while pulling a trailer when he slowed to make a turn into the rest stop near Patch Road. Wilson’s vehicle was struck by a 2021 straight truck being driven by Luis A. Fuentes Lara, 22, Middleton.

Investigators reported that the vehicles entered the north ditch and came to rest in a field. It was then that a trailer caught fire.

Wilson and Fuentes Lara, along with Fuentes Lara’s passenger, Robert C. Avalos, 23, Middleton, were able to escape the vehicles. Fuentes Lara and Avalos reported no injuries and denied paramedic transport. Wilson received moderate injuries and burns and was transported to a local hospital.

East and west traffic on Wis. 11 was backed up to one-lane only, with flaggers directing traffic.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene with severe damage. Shullsburg Police, Darlington Fire, and Wisconsin State Patrol assisted on scene.
