MONROE - More travel could be in families' plans for upcoming Fourth of July vacations. Local gas prices are falling, in tandem with state and national prices.

Average retail gasoline prices in Wisconsin fell 11 cents per gallon last week, averaging $3.46 per gallon on Sunday. This compares with the national average that fell 7.9 cents per gallon last week to $3.45 per gallon, according to gasoline price website WisconsinGasPrices.com.

On Thursday, gas was selling from $3.43 to $3.45 per gallon in Monroe and at $3.39 per gallon in Brodhead. New Glarus and Monticello had gas at $3.33 per gallon.

Kubly Tire and Service Station in Monticello was selling gas on a three-cent cash discount basis for $3.32 per gallon on Thursday. Their credit price of $3.35 per gallon is a drop of 22 cents from $3.57 per gallon one month ago on May 26 and a drop of 54 cents from $3.89 on March 25, the highest so far this year.

Nationwide, prices on Sunday were 11.5 cents per gallon lower than the same day one year ago and were 22.7 cents per gallon lower than a month ago. The national average has decreased 21.7 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 14.0 cents per gallon lower than one year ago.

"The national average has now dropped to its lowest level since Feb. 4," said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst at GasBuddy.com, in a statement released Monday.

"Gasoline can be found as cheap as $2.73 per gallon (Monday) in Taylors, S.C. While this certainly isn't going to be the price of every station, a majority of gasoline outlets are featuring prices that have come down significantly in the last month, similar to that of the sentiment of Chicago Cubs fans," DeHaan said.
