TOWN OF SPRING GROVE - An 88-year-old man injured in a traffic crash Sunday has died of his injuries, reports the Green County Sheriff's Department.
John G. Kohn, Freeport, Ill., was extricated by Brodhead firefighters and transported to Janesville Mercy Hospital. The Rock County Coroner's Office notified authorities of Kohn's death Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 26. It is the seventh traffic fatality in Green County in 2012. Eight traffic fatalities had been reported by this date last year.
Surviving Kohn is his wife, Joann K. Kohn, 80, who was also injured in the crash and hospitalized.
The Kohns were two of the seven people injured in the three-vehicle crash early Sunday afternoon, Sept. 23.
Deputies responded at 1:52 p.m. to the accident on Wisconsin 11 and Mount Hope Road in the Town of Spring Grove.
John Kohn was eastbound and attempting to turn into a business in the W900 block of Wis. 11 when a vehicle driven by Amanda M. Swedlund, 24, Juda, rearended him and pushed his vehicle into the westbound lane of traffic, causing it to strike a vehicle driven by George L. Burris, 62, Shullsburg.
Swedlund was transported to Monroe Clinic with injuries, along with four of her six passengers: Christopher J. Swedlund, 25, and Briliey L. Swedlund, 6, both of Juda, and Jessica E. Pepper, 25, and Brendon A. Pepper, 6, both of Forest Grove, Mont.
Not injured in the Swedlund vehicle were Zachary J. Pierce, 2 months, Forest Grove, Mont.; and Mason J. Swedlund, 2, Juda.
Amanda Swedlund was cited for inattentive driving.
Burris and his passenger, Wendy L. Burris, 63, also of Shullsburg, reported no injuries.
Also assisting at the scene were Brodhead police and EMS, Monroe EMS, Orfordville EMS, Juda firefighters, Medflight and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
