2012 Green County Cheese Days Ambassador
Spring has sprung around Green County and surrounding areas, signaling that it is time to shake off the winter blues and get out into the sunshine. I'm looking forward to getting out in this beautiful weather and promoting our beloved and historic Green County Cheese Days Festival around the state and surrounding areas at various events and parades.
I know what you're thinking - "Cheese Days isn't until September. How can you be planning now?" Although it may feel like months until you'll be able to devour delicious cheese in the Hospitality Tent, planning and preparing for Cheese Days is a continuous job, even on non-Cheese Days years. The festival is spearheaded by a board and countless volunteers. Without these vested volunteers, the Cheese Days festival wouldn't be possible, so a big "thank you" to each and every one of them for their hard work.
As mentioned, this year I have the honor of serving as the festival's ambassador. Growing up in Green County, just down the road from Monroe in Browntown, I remember the fun times we'd have celebrating Cheese Days every other year with family and friends. Many relatives would come from near and far just to tickle their taste buds with delicious Green County cheese, dance a polka or just sit back and enjoy the parade filled with bands, floats, and Brown Swiss cows.
In my role as Cheese Days Ambassador, I will be doing all I can to spread the word about Cheese Days, Swiss heritage, and our thriving cheese and dairy industry. To help get the word out, I've started a blog and encourage you all to follow it to keep up with my busy travels and promotions, as well as some interesting facts about the festival. I even have plans to record a video of my first Limburger tasting - a must see. You can visit the blog by going to: followthecheesybrickroad.wordpress.com .
You can also learn more about what activities will be planned for this year's festival by checking out the website www.cheesedays.com, logging into Facebook and liking "Cheese Days Festival" or following updates on Twitter (@CheeseDays.) I will also be sharing videos through these different channels on the festival's YouTube channel (CheeseDaysFestival.) In today's world, there are so many ways to stay connected and so many great ways to share your excitement about Cheese Days with others.
As you come out of hibernation this spring, and schedules fill with activities going into summer, be sure to mark your calendars for Cheese Days 2012 being held September 14-16 on the Square. Also, I challenge you to be your own ambassador for Cheese Days by inviting family and friends, near and far, to join you in some fun. I look forward to sharing updates with you leading up to this year's festival, and as always, I encourage you to take the cheesy brick road.
