MONROE — A Lafayette County child care provider faces felony child sexual assault and multiple child pornography charges, according to court records.

Robert A. Sweeney, a Woodford resident, appeared in a status conference on the 10-count charges Jan. 18 before Circuit Judge Thomas J. Vale. He pleaded not guilty to charges against him October 18, 2022, records show.

The 64-year-old is apparently free on bond, as officials said he is not currently in the local jail. He was represented on the case by Attorney Murali S. Jasti, according to court records, which also show he has not previously been charged with any crimes in Lafayette County.

Repeated sexual assault of the same child is a Class B felony in Wisconsin punishable by up to 40 years in prison. Sexual assault of a child/physical abuse of a child by a child care provider also carries a maximum 40-year sentence.

It is unclear where the alleged abuse of the child occurred, whether the child victim was related to the suspect; or in his immediate care.

The next hearing on the case is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. April 4 in Vale’s courtroom.
