William E. Silver, age 84 of Monticello, died Sunday, April 27, 2008 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital surrounded by his family. Bill was born October 17, 1923 in Monroe, the son of Ray T. Silver Sr. and Mabel (Carroll). He attended Silver Rural School and graduated from Monticello High School in 1941. He farmed throughout his lifetime with his two brothers and nephew on the family farm in Mt. Pleasant Township.

He had served as Past President of Silver Lewis Cheese Factory, served on the board of the Wisconsin Swiss and Limburger Assoc., was a member of the Knights of Columbus Monroe Council #1471, and a member of St. James Catholic Church in Dayton, WI. Bill had a passion for Ford trucks and tractors, enjoyed traveling, and loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include a brother, Artemas (Rose) Silver of Monticello; a sister, Ann (James) Curran of Browntown; two nieces, Mary Jo (Matthew) McCarville of Brodhead, and Nancy (Michael) Metcalf of Appleton; and three nephews, Donald (Marlis) Silver of Monticello, Jon (Pat) Curran of Gratiot, and James Jr. (Susie) Curran of Browntown. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ray T. Silver Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2008, at St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in Belleville with Father Kenneth Klink officiating. Burial will be held in Saint James Cemetery, Exeter Township. A visitation will be held at the VOEGELI-NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monticello, on Friday, May 2, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a prayer service to be held at 8:15 p.m. A memorial fund will be established in his name.
