Werner "Johnny" Saxer, age 89 of Monticello, died Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at the New Glarus Home. He was born on January 18, 1927 in Monroe, the son of John and Anna (Gerber) Saxer. He was united in marriage to Wilma Wirth on January 29, 1945 and following Wilma's death he married Judy Phillips on February 12, 1983. Johnny farmed in Exeter Township, Green County until the early 1970's and also worked at the Janesville General Motors assembly plant for 30 years. Following his retirement from GM in 1988, Johnny worked at the Monticello Sales Barn for many years enjoying that time with the animals and the local farmers. He enjoyed growing flowers, watching the birds in his yard, playing cards, a cold beer, a limburger sandwich, and his poodles.
Johnny is survived by five children, Anna May (Keith) Beutel, Debbie Merrill, Randy Saxer, Kim Saxer, and Jennifer (Bob) Saxer Arnsdorf; step-children, John (Kathy) Phillips, Cindy (Mark) Yaun, and Diana (Sergey) Tumashova; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Harry Saxer; and his poodle, Holly. He was preceded in death by his parents; his two wives, Wilma and Judy; a son, Paul; two sisters, Wilma Fosaaen and Hilda Wirth; and a brother, Edwin.
