DARLINGTON - Virginia Garrison, age 72 of Darlington, WI, died on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Lafayette County Manor in Darlington surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease. She was born on November 28, 1936 to William and Prudence (Soper) Meylor. Virginia graduated from Darlington High School in 1954 and went on to pursue a teaching career. She graduated from Green County Normal School and was a rural schoolteacher. On June 22, 1957, she married Carl H. "Buddy" Garrison in Calamine, WI. Carl preceded her in death on November 8, 1996.
After many years, she re-entered teaching and worked as a special education aide at Darlington Schools. Virginia was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, of its Council of Catholic Women, and of Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court # 698.
Survivors include her children: Marcia (Richard Rufer) Garrison of Darlington, Janet (Grant) Garrison Benson of Wiota, Marilyn (Jeff) Sellnow of Monroe, and Mark (Karen) Garrison of Darlington; her five grandchildren: Chase and Kyleigh Sellnow and Markus, Brook, and Garth Garrison; two sisters: Barbara Judkins of Darlington and Patricia (Rich) Rolli of Madison; two brothers: Tom (Sharon) Meylor of Belmont and Jim (Mary) Meylor of Darlington; a sister-in-law, Marian Meylor of Darlington; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister, Lorraine Boyle; her brother, Bernard Meylor; and a brother-in-law, Glen Judkins.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at HOLY ROSARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 104 E. Harriet Street, Darlington, with Fr. Randy Budnar and Fr. Monte Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Rosary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, June 8, 2009 at STEIL CAMACHO FUNERAL HOME, 206 E. Harriet Street, Darlington, WI, where a Catholic Daughters of the Americas Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m.
