Velma R. Wahler, age 90, of Monroe, formerly of the South Wayne area, died on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at the Monroe Manor Nursing Home. She was born on February 9, 1920, in Lamont Township, LaFayette County, the daughter of Edgar and Esther (Hermanson) Prine. Velma and Lewie R. Wahler were married on November 24, 1936, at the Blanchardville Parsonage. In earlier years, Velma was the foreman for a detaseling crew, she owned and operated a restaurant in Gratiot, she worked for Oaktron Industries for several years, and her last employment was working for Eaton Corporation. Velma was a member of the Wiota Lutheran Church, Women of the Moose Lodge#599, and of the Pecatonica Home Makers for 57 years. She enjoyed playing bingo, crocheting and quilting. Velma was best known as the queen of LaFayette County for baking lefse and cookies for a multitude of friends and family. But most of all she loved spending time with her family and also a great game of cards.

She is survived by her sons, Gordon (Rose) Wahler of Monroe, Gerald (Beverly) Wahler of Brodhead; her #3 son, Chuck Smith; grandchildren, Scott (Teresa), Shawn (Becky) & Robert (Tina) Wahler, Lori (Dennis) Timm; great grandchildren, Justin & Ryan Timm, Dylan & Derek Wahler, Trevor, Emily, Gladen & Kylee Wahler; a great great grandson, Korbin Timm and her brother, Delbert Prine of Beloit. She is predeceased by her parents; husband, Lewie; brother, Robert Prine; sisters, Marie Bollerud and Alice Smith.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the Wiota Lutheran Church, Wiota, WI with Rev. Connie Matye of Peace Lutheran Church in Belmont, WI officiating. Burial will be in the West Wiota Lutheran Cemetery, Gratiot Township, LaFayette County. A visitation will be held on Monday, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home in Monroe. A memorial fund is being established in Velma's memory.
