Sylvia J. Ayen, age 62 of Monroe, died Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at her home. She was born on February 27, 1947 in Madison, WI, the daughter of Jess and Ruth (Fritz) Cotham. Sylvia graduated from Belleville H.S. in 1965. She married David L. Ayen on December 16, 1967 in Belleville. Sylvia worked as a customer service representative for Alliant Energy for the past 20 years. She was a member of Monroe United Methodist Church. She enjoyed quilting, reading, fishing; but her biggest joy was her family.
She is survived by her husband, David of Monroe; her mother, Ruth Cotham of New Glarus; a son, Eric A. (Beth) Ayen of Rochester, MN; a daughter, Carla R. (Brian) Knoche of Madison and four grandchildren and looking forward to the fifth one any day. She was preceded in death by her father, and a brother, Richard Cotham.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 26, at the Monroe United Methodist Church, with Reverend Randy Booth and Reverend Mary Gafner officiating. Burial will be in Montrose - Pioneer Cemetery, at a later time. A visitation will be held Saturday from 4 p.m.to 7 p.m. at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home, 1455 Mansion Dr. and 18th Ave., Monroe. Memorials may be given in Sylvia's name to either Monroe Clinic Hospice or Monroe United Methodist Church.
