Sister Agnes Kircher, CSA, formerly known as Sister Joseph Gerard, died peacefully on October 5, 2017, at Nazareth Center, Fond du Lac, WI.
Agnes was born in Bronx, NY, on April 20, 1933, to Michael Kircher and Caroline Vogler Kircher. She had four brothers and five sisters.
Sister Agnes made her first profession of vows in the Congregation of St. Agnes on August 15, 1953. She received a BS in Education from Marian College of Fond du Lac, WI, earned an MEd in Curriculum Direction from De Paul University, Chicago, and became a Certified Chaplain in 1988.
Sister Agnes was a grade school teacher for 27 years in IL, OH, KS, MN, WI, and NY. In 1981-82 she served as principal at Sacred Heart School, Fond du Lac. Her years in the field of education completed, she did pastoral ministry to the elderly and infirm, AIDS ministry, pastoral care and hospital chaplaincy in a variety of settings in KS and WI. She was chaplain at the Monroe Clinic, Monroe, WI, from 1993-2003.
Having retired to Fond du Lac, she assisted in the sewing room at Nazareth Court and Center, was sacristan and excelled at creating decorations for the worship space. Sister Agnes freely shared her artistic talents with others through drawings and calligraphy. She also liked to share witty stories.
Preceding Sister Agnes in death were her parents Michael and Caroline Kircher; her brothers Michael, Joseph, James, and Richard; and her sisters Caroline Pecoroni, Mary Schultz, Theresa Brunner, Dorothy Martino, and Anna May Costello.
Sister Agnes is survived by her nieces and nephews, many friends and the Sisters of St. Agnes, with whom she lived, prayed and ministered.
A committal service and burial took place at St. Joseph Springs Cemetery on October 6, 2017.
A Memorial Mass for Sister Agnes will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. in St. Francis Home Chapel, 33 Everett Street, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Father Ken Smits, Capuchin, will be the presider.
