NEW GLARUS - Shirley M. Krauss, age 85, of New Glarus passed away on Monday, August 1, 2016 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. She was born on May 14, 1931 at Monroe to her parents Robert and Emma (Edwards) Ruch. After her parents' death she was raised by Fred and Minnie Burkhalter. Shirley graduated from Monroe High School. She was first married to Raymond Blumer 1949 and had three children. Following Raymond's death in 1955 she married Walter Krauss in 1958 and had two children. Shirley was a farm wife and homemaker on the Twin Hills Dairy Farm outside New Glarus; she had also worked for the Monroe Cheese Corp for many years. Shirley took great pride in her lawns, gardens, and flowers which was evident in the garden fish pond she designed and built on the farm. Her family was very important to her and she enjoyed the up north family vacations each year. Shirley also enjoyed gambling and was an avid Packer fan. She was a fiercely independent woman and was proud to have stayed in her own home.

Shirley is survived by her children Peggy (Butch) Legler, Mike (Barb) Krauss, Sandy (Mike) Blum, and Sherry (John) Breisch, eight grandchildren Shane, Dan, Debbie, Trevor, Haley, Tanner, Hannah, and Lilly, four great-grandchildren Chad, Fanta, Brooks, and Korika, and a sister Lucille Aebly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Raymond and Walter, brother Willis Hartwig, sister Wilma Wells, and granddaughter-in-law Tonya Legler.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 5, 2016 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 Sixth Ave, New Glarus, WI.

A gathering of relatives and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home in New Glarus.

Memorials are suggested to the Green County Humane Society.
