Shirley E. Doan, age 89, of Darlington, WI, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at her daughter's home surrounded by her family. She was born September 9, 1923 in Willow Springs Township, WI, the daughter of Robert and Rella (Hendrickson) Calvert. Shirley lived her entire life in the Darlington area, graduating from Darlington High School in 1940. She was united in marriage to Donald Doan on January 3, 1942 at Darlington United Methodist Parsonage. Shirley stayed busy doing a variety of jobs from being a cook at Willow Springs Elementary School to being a PM Aid at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County to wallpapering and painting.
Shirley is survived by two daughters: Janet (Alfred) Sterling of Webster, FL, and Debra (Randy) Raymond of rural Darlington; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law: Harold Lattin of rural Darlington; and one aunt: Mary Loui of Madison, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on August 30, 1991; two sisters: Winogene Skattum and Grace Lattin; and one brother: Fremont Calvert.
Shirley was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Darlington, its church choir, and held many other capacities within the church. She was a member of Rebekah Lodge #170 for over 50 years and also a member of the Willow Springs Homemakers Club. Shirley loved participating in a number of activities, such as bowling, golfing, playing cards, quilting, crocheting, sewing, reading, and doing Jigsaw puzzles. Shirley will always be remembered for her services to others. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 13, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 339 East Louisa Street in Darlington with Rev. Dr. Connie J. Peake officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery in Darlington. A visitation will be held Saturday, July 13, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Immanuel United Church of Christ in the Fellowship Hall.
