Shirley A. Goodman, age 79 of Monroe died unexpectedly on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. Shirley was born on December 30, 1936 in Monroe, the daughter of Thomas and Adeline (Hartwig) Mahle. She graduated from Monroe High School and married Roger A. Goodman on September 4, 1954 in Monroe. Following their marriage, Shirley and Roger lived in the Rockford, IL area until moving back to Monroe in 2000. Shirley was an active member of the Monroe Bible Church. She also was an avid reader, enjoyed visiting with family and friends, listening to music at Turner Hall, crocheting, watching the Packers, and taking an occasional trip to Dubuque.

She will be greatly missed by a son, Randy (Judie) Goodman, a granddaughter, Christie (Jeremie) Myhren of Rockford; grandchildren, Bristol and Lily, all of Rockford, IL; three sisters, Marianne (LaVerne) Altmann of Monroe, Judy Miller of Gettysburg, PA, and Bev (Herb) Hanson of Monroe; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Dennis Meier of Monroe. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roger, on February 4, 2005; a son, Kirk in 1969; and a nephew, Dan Hanson in 2000.

A visitation for Shirley will be held on Sunday, January 31, 2016, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe. There will be no funeral service held.
