MONROE - The Green County Sheriff's Department is no longer looking for a man who went missing Monday afternoon.
The sheriff's department had previously been in search of Andy J. Markham, 37, who left abruptly on foot from a meeting with Green County Human Services staff at their office in the Pleasant View complex off Wisconsin 81 at about 3:30 p.m. Monday, June 24.
Markham was not believed to be dangerous and he wasn't wanted on criminal charges, but authorities were worried about his mental health and believed it was necessary to evaluate him further.
However, a Nixle alert released by the sheriff's department at around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, announced that the authorities were no longer looking for Markham. Sheriff Jeff Skatrud said the search was halted by Markham himself.
"He contacted the sheriff's department voluntarily," Skatrud said. "Green County Human Services was contacted and additional follow-up was referred to them. No additional action (was) requested from our department."
