On September 6, 1947 Shan was joined in Marriage to Samuel F. Humbel. Samuel and Shan were parents to four children, Greg (Barb McLelland), Lynn (Scott) Fuller, Chris (Jesse) Waters and Shan (Rich) Hager.
After her husband became sheriff of Green County Shan joined the duties. She became a full-time Matron of Jail. She would spend many hours cooking for the prisoners and her growing family.
In the later 60s Shan found herself very active in the community. She was active in the Girl Scouts, Monroe Woman's Club and Jaycett's. One of her greatest joy was meeting with her very close friends in a sewing group each week. The ladies spend endless hours sharing stories and supporting each other through the years. That finally became an incredible social outlet for her for over 42 years.
While her children were all in school Shan became the credit manager of the Sherwin Williams Paints. She joined her husband in this business that would extend for over 20 years. She was one of the first woman credit managers in this corporation and a pioneer in her industry.
Her greatest love was for her family and her four children, 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. It wasn't unusual for her to spend hours in her garden. She loved cooking and preparing home-cooked meals each evening for her family. Camping trips to various parks throughout Wisconsin were a weekend getaway for the whole group. Later in life she spent time in retirement years. After traveling they enjoyed weekends at the beautiful Chalet that Sam build in the hills of Gotham, Wisconsin. The view of the Wisconsin River was breath taking. She loved entertaining the endless flow of family and friends at the river on the weekends. Watching her grandchildren go from playing in the sandbox to married with children.
