Sanford (Sam) Stanley Weber, age 90, of Monroe passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at the Monroe Manor Nursing Home where he resided for the past 6 weeks. Sam was born on February 2, 1921 to parents Peter and Frances (Gullickson) Weber. He graduated from Albany High School in 1939. On February 28, 1944 Sam and Evelyn Hirsbrunner were married and began their life of farming together. They bought a farm southeast of Monroe in 1949 where Sam continued to farm the land, even baling his own hay at the age of 89. Sam also worked as a welder and owned and operated a machine shop (Monroe Machine and Welding) for a few years until selling it in 1962. He then worked for the new owner for 26 years until he retired from the company now known as "Monroe Truck Equipment."
It was once said of him "if Sam can't fix it, it can't be fixed." He was always contemplating new ways of making something work. He remarked that he would run out of time before he would run out of ideas for things he wanted to do or create. Many of his ideas through the years have laid the groundwork for more efficient operation of farming and truck equipment.
As much as Sam enjoyed the creative process, he loved the land that he farmed. Seated on a tractor while working the fields, he was on top of the world. Still more than this was his love for his family. Spending time with his daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, and great grandchildren is what made him the happiest.
He leaves behind his children: Sherry (Mark) Davis of Hartford, Wisconsin and SonJa (Steve) Mayes of Madison, Wisconsin. He will also be deeply missed by his grandchildren: Shiloh (Marc) Lavoie of San Diego, California; Hollin Burton of Hartford, Wisconsin; Amanda Mayes and David Mayes of Madison, Wisconsin, and great-grandchildren: Sydney Kidd and Brady Lavoie, of San Diego, California; Periyon Mayes and ToriyJa Woods of Madison, Wisconsin; Austin Weber of Waukesha, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn; brothers Alan, Gabriel, and Lyle Weber; and sister, Sylvia (Moore, Bailey)
Funeral services will be held at the Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home, 1455 Mansion Drive in Monroe on Wednesday, August 10 at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Dennis Perger officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service. A Memorial fund will be established.
