Ruth Winden, age 94 of Mount Horeb, formerly of Blanchardville, died on Monday morning, December 2, 2013 at the Ingleside Nursing Home in Mount Horeb. She was born on September 24, 1919 to Elvin and Selma (Jorenby) Swiggum. She went to the Sunnyside one room country school in rural Blanchardville, graduated from the Blanchardville High School in 1937 and the Platteville Teachers College in 1939. Ruth taught at the Meadow View School for two years, and then was married on June 14, 1941 in her parents' home to Lloyd Gilford Winden. Ruth and Lloyd farmed together on Sawmill Road, York Township in rural Blanchardville. Ruth's first priority was being a mom and a grandma - always loving and giving. She loved the Lord and raised her children all in the faith. Ruth was actively involved at the Adams Lutheran Church in the Sunday School, church women's group, and multiple committees through the years.

Ruth is survived by her 7 children, Sylvia (Rick) Batchelder of Dane, Luther Winden of Costa Rica, David (Dolores) Winden of Blanchardville, Dawn Winden of Middleton, Elaine (Chris) DeVito of Warren, New Jersey, Sylvan (Sarah) Winden of Wisconsin Dells, and Debra Winden of Monona; special family friends John Ruhl and Jim Roberts; two sisters, Hope (Herbert) Klassy of New Glarus, and Drs Gwendolyn (Lowell) Smythe of Hollywood, South Carolina; one brother, Erling (Evelyn) Swiggum of Dodgeville; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd on June 4, 1995; her baby daughter Laura in 1942; a son Raymond in 2008; and her brother Eric Swiggum in 2001.

A visitation for Ruth Winden will be held on Saturday evening, December 7, 2013 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Saether Funeral Home in Blanchardville. Funeral services will be held on Sunday afternoon, December 8, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the Adams Lutheran Church (N7148 County A) in rural Argyle. Rev. Rick Fry of that church will officiate. Burial will be in the Adams Lutheran Church Cemetery. Online memories and condolences can be shared with the family at www.saetherfuneralhome.com.
